Yonomi is a fantastic app that can scan your home’s Wi-Fi for compatible devices and platforms, offering up a wealth of autonomous actions without any leg work from you. I tried to do the same for several days and it didn’t worked for me. But one day instead of doing that through mobile app settings I clicked the pop up window to setup the google home on the main screen of Sonos app and it worked. Google Assistant has got a vast range of commands it supports without being too restrictive on how it ought to be said.

I have this all set up and it works well for playing music through Sonos with voice control. But… I have major problems with drop-outs and stuttering when the music is playing. I even got a Cat5/USB adapter thinking that I might have some WiFi interference. I got online with Google and their solution was to reboot the cable modem and restart Chromecast Audio.
For me, Sonos Roam has proven to be the perfect portable speaker for listening to music when I’m not necessarily sitting in the same place. Going forward, I think it’ll be one of the tentpoles of my Google Home ecosystem. $169 is not cheap, and for many, may not be worthwhile. Hardware holds up well on this product, too. The design keeps the device small, as mentioned, but it’s also well thought out.
Google home speaks it’s language and Chromecast inegrates with all your streaming services. Next you should be asked to connect your Chromecast Audio to your home Wi-Fi. You may need to enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Make sure the mobile device you’re using connected to your Wi-Fi network, too.
Assistant settings, device settings, and sound settings apply to the stereo pair and can't be changed on individual speakers. Yes you can control all your devices, smart plugs etc with Sonos. This is possible because these devices are already compatible with the Google Assistant. Sonos only acts as an intermediary that incorporates voice control feature for the automatic control of these devices. The built-in microphones of the Sonos captures your voice commands. So once your commands are picked up by Sonos, it is relayed to the virtually smart Assistant which is responsible for executing your instructions.
Sonos is the best for voice assistant because it supports all voice assistants, Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant. With this, regardless of the Assistant you seem to like, you are well served with just this single brand. Of course, one type of Assistant is better than the other in a particular service it renders. So, financially, you are freed from the burden of purchasing more than one type of speaker just to support the different virtually smart assistant setup your home has.
This option lets you select which Sonos speaker a Google Home device should play music to by default. To make this setting work optimally, you should set a Google Home speaker to use a Sonos speaker that’s in the same room as it. Sonos might be the best multiroom audio system, but if you want to make it even easier to use you’ll want to add voice control into the mix. Due to the ongoing Sonos feud about speaker grouping, you can’t pair the Sonos Roam with other Google Assistant speakers around your home to have music playing simultaneously. Another slight quirk is how Roam is treated within the Google Home app.
You might run into issues on a large property, but as long as your expectations are in check, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. When you are out of Wi-Fi range, you’ll of course lose access to Google Assistant, but you can still use this product as a normal Bluetooth speaker with your smartphone. Make sure that any music services you add in the Google Assistant app have also been added to your Sonos system in the Sonos app.
